Childhood is a time of tremendous growth and development. Children are constantly evolving in their ability to communicate, solve problems, get along with others, and understand their thoughts and feelings. They gain independence and confidence in their abilities. They experience joy in their successes and learn how to persevere when things do not go just right. For every child, we expect that there will be ups and downs during this progression. The course of your child’s development can certainly be smooth sailing one moment, and a bit rocky the next. But, what happens when there seem to be more moments of struggle than success?
When your child experiences symptoms that are impacting his or her mood and behavior, relationships with others, performance at school, or your family’s overall well-being, it may be time to seek help. Just as adults can benefit from meeting with a therapist during difficult points in their lives, children can as well. In fact, research shows that early identification and treatment of a variety of presenting issues in early childhood is a key indicator of future success. I am a licensed clinical psychologist specializing in work with toddlers, preschoolers, and elementary age children, along with their parents, to assist families in managing these challenges to create positive, lasting change.
I hope you find this site helpful in orienting you to the therapy process, learning about my experiences, and the ways I can help your family find balance and thrive.
